Obituary of Robert A. Peterson

Robert Peterson 1938 - 2018 Utica Robert A. Peterson, 80, a longtime area resident, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer. He was born in Mexico, NY on January 25, 1938, the son of Clair and Evelyn Cummings Peterson, and attended Mexico schools. Robert served proudly with the U.S. Army and became a member of the Army Reserves after he was honorably discharged. On October 1, 1966 he married Martha Ingham. He co-owned and operated Varick Alignment and Brake Service with Walter Guminiakfor over 45 years until his retirement. Bob was an avid bowler and a black belt in the martial arts. He loved nature and the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and traveling to the Grand Canyon and Alaska. Bob was a beloved husband and father, whose lighthearted personality always made us smile. His survivors include his loving wife Martha of Herkimer; his three daughters and their husbands, Amy and Richard Kinville, Anne Peterson, and Amanda and Clifford Crandall, Jr., his two sisters Virginia and Thelma Peterson, and his close friend and business partner Walter Guminiak. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday from 2until 5pm at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home,284 Main Street, New York Mills. A graveside service will take place in Kirkland Cemetery in the spring, at the convenience of the family.
