Obituary of Mary Ann Wolak

MARY ANN WOLAK New York Mills 1930 - 2018 Mary Ann Wolak, 87, a resident of the Presbyterian Home, passed away Monday April 9 with her loving family at her side. Born Oct 29, 1930 in Cleveland OH, Mary Ann was daughter of Alvin and Victoria (Pavlov) Matesky (Matuszewski). Her family moved to Rome, NY in 1940, where she attended RFA. Mary Ann continued her education at Syracuse University and Utica College and was later employed at Griffiss AFB, Johann's Clothing store, and retired from the Jim Brock Insurance Agency in 1995. Mary Ann was also a member of the O.E.S. in Oriskany. In 1957 Mary Ann married Stanley Wolak of New York Mills, a happy union until his death in 1999. She and Stanley embraced and shared a deep pride in their Polish heritage and traditions with their daughters and grandchildren. Mary Ann and Stanley enjoyed and appreciated lifelong friendships with caring neighbors in New York Mills. Mary Ann was predeceased by a brother, Thomas (OH), and her twin brother Edwin (CT). Survivors include two daughters, Linda Michels of Clinton NY and Susan Wengert (with Eric Mabie) of Jamesville NY, two adored grandchildren, Lauren Michels, and Steven Michels (with Tracy Benson) and a great grandson Malcolm Michels, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held from 4-6pm, Thursday Apr 12 at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 284 Main St..New York Mills. Interment will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park at a later date. Mary Ann's family wishes to thank the staff of the Presbyterian home for their love and dedicated care, many of her dear friends there who loved and supported her, and the drivers of D&T Transport who became like family to her and us.
