Obituary of Chester J. Banek

Chester Banek 1935 - 2018 Yorkville Chester J. Banek, 83, a lifelong Yorkville resident passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Faxton St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was born March 13, 1935, in Utica, the son of John and Catherine JurkiewiczBanek. Chester was a graduate of St. Mary's NYM Grammar School, Whitesboro School District, and received his AS from MVTI in Utica. He proudly served his country in the US Army. On September 27, 1958 he was united in marriage to ZarefayNackley in St. Louis Gonzaga Church. Chester was employed for 37 years with Special Metals until his retirement.After his retirement he enjoyed fixing things around the house,traveling, and spending as much time as possible at his favorite place, camp on the St. Lawrence River, which he built by hand with his wife.He was a member of the Malsan Jones VFW, Whitestown American Legion 1113, the American Society of Metals, and was a lifetime member of the NRA. His survivors include his wife Zarefay(Za) Banek, of Yorkville; his daughter and son - in- law, Katherine and Scott Russ of Yorkville; two grandchildren, Amy (Storsberg) Lawlor and her husband, Shawn of Sauquoit and Michael Storsberg and his fiancé, Lindsay Schick of Yorkville; three great grandchildren, Shawn and Aaron Lawlor, and Abigail Storsberg. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Marguerite Banek, of New Hartford; brothers in-law's-, Mickey Nackley of Utica and George and Theresa Nackley of FL., cousin, Helen Broccoli and several nieces and nephews including a special nephew John Banek. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Alfred Banek,son-in-law, William Storsberg,fatherand mother in law, James and Sadie Nackley, and in-laws, Fred and Florence Nackley and Elizabeth Nackley. Chester's family would like express their sincere appreciation to all the staff at St. Luke's Hospital PCU and Dr. Sloane for their care and compassion shown throughout his stay. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4-7pm at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home 284 Main Street New York Mills. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10am at Sacred Heart/St. Mary's Church in NYM, where Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated. Burial with Military Honors will take place in St. Stanislaus & Casimir Cemetery immediately following.
