Obituary of Walter A. Koniewicz

Walter A. Koniewicz 1922 – 2018 Whitesboro Walter Allen Koniewicz, age 96 ended his earthy journey on August 13, 2018, in his home surrounded by beloved generations of family. Born on June 23, 1922 in New Hartford, NY, Walter is predeceased by his father, Kazmierz Koniewicz and his mother, Minnie Peltousen Koniewicz, his step-mother Mary Katherine Sucanik Koniewicz, his sister, Ella Koniewicz, his daughter, Mary Ellen Koniewicz and most recently his son, Gary A.Koniewicz of Kentucky. Walter is survived by his wife, Gladys Belanger Koniewicz, his daughters, Gail A. Mahar of New Berlin and Susan Koniewicz-Everett of Clinton, and his son, Paul A. Koniewicz of Oklahoma. Walter leaves behind eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Walter was a member of the "greatest generation" serving in the 3rd Marine Division in WWII. He survived the Pacific Battles of Iwo Jima, Guadal Canal, Guam and Bougainville. Walter's great achievements of his life's journey: family that love and support him, caring for the environment, and pride of his 1956 home with surrounding park-like land. Walter's children wish to thank William D. Ryan, MD of Whitesboro for his care and compassion of their father during his illness. The family has a special thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care of New Hartford for the care and support which fulfilled Walter's wish for a dignified and peaceful death at his home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Thursday at 12 p.m. at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. At Walter's request, there will no calling hours. Burial with Military Honors will take place in the family plot in Forest Hill Cemetery.
