Walter J. Niziol

1945-2019

Utica -- Mr. Walter Niziol, 74, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 in St. Elizabeth's Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Walter was born in Utica on March 5, 1945, the son of the late Walter William and Nora Wilczek Niziol and he attended local schools. He was married to Florence Grower at the Methodist Church in Newport on August 28, 1976. Walter was employed as a Maintenance Worker at the Masonic Care Community for many years. He was a Boy Scout and an avid fisherman with a great love for the Salmon River. He enjoyed tending to his garden and always making sure his vehicle was spotless.

Walter is survived by his loving wife, Florence of Utica; six sons and their spouses, Richard and Jodi Grower of Little Falls, Kevin and Kim DiFlippo of Cold Brook, David and Gennette Niziol of Frankfort, Matthew Niziol and companion Jamie Derella of Utica, Jonathan Niziol and Kenneth Walter Niziol of Dallas , TX; two daughters and one son in law, Gina Skerritt of Utica and Lisa and Shawn Morgan of Remsen; ten grandchildren ,Jason Grower, Richie Grower, Ryan Grower, Brian Grower, Miranda Niziol, Jordan Niziol, Kory Jackson, Dakota Jackson, Evelyn Morgan, and Rayna Niziol, and many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Christine Dombrowski.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 6 PM in the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 1156 Lincoln Ave, Utica with the Rev. Robert Wollaber, officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 PM until the time of services in the Kowalczyk Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Utica at the convenience of the family.
