Obituary of Edward A. Mieczkowski

Edward A. Mieczkowski Taberg Edward A. Mieczkowski 97, passed away January 14th 2020. Edward who was born into this world via midwife at his Utica home, April 24th 1922, Son of Alexander and Lucy Wojciechowski Mieczkowski, hasdeparted from this world, at his daughter's home on January 14th 2020. Edward was raised and educated in local schools, graduated from UFA with the class of 1940, New York State Aviation School 1941 and was a certified A&E mechanic. Edward is a proud World War II US Army Air Veteran. Through their first love, Aviation, Edward met then married his late, dynamic wife of over 55 years, Leona Valentine Frankow, on June 30,1951 at St. Patrick's Church Utica. In the course of worldwide travels, throughout his 30+ year career as a Flight Engineer for Trans World Airlines, Edward enjoyed conversing with his passengers, among them dignitaries, celebrities and world leaders. Edward and his wife were activists, some causes included environmental issues, enforcing the Clean Water Act, pro-life activities, and initiating the development of Firthcliff sewer systems. Edward was a member of the citizens against ConEd preventing further pollution to the Hudson, and member of Spring Valley American Legion Post #199. Edward continued to remain active, during retirement, with his wife at the home she was born, on their horse/hobby farm in Glenmore. With vast knowledge and life experiences, he was a captivating storyteller. A brilliant, worldly, yet modest Man of Faith, charming, kind, generous, gentle and nurturing, Edward cherished his family, adored children and all of God's creations, cared for and brought joy to so many. To know him is to love him. Edward is survived by his children: Edward F. (Lorraine) Mieczkowski, James (Janet) Mieczkowski, Nancy-Jane (Michael) Larkin, Mary-Ann Sharpe & Jack Mieczkowski; 12 Grandchildren: Jeremy, Alexander (Elizabeth), Nicholas, James Jr. (Sabina), Rachel (John) Sweeny, Heather and Mason Mieczkowski, Dr. Lanora Larkin (Michael) Duell, Cpt.Thadeous (Raney Quirk) Larkin, Jessie-Lee VanDusen Seymour, Stephen and Sarah Sharpe; 10(+) GreatGrandchildren: Dean, Lila,Cole, Bailey Grace, Ashlyn, Aurora, Sylvia, Savannah, Kyle, Kaitlyn and another on the way; Sister-in-laws: Jill (Stanley) Bates and Helen (Michael) Frankow. Many beloved nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded by Sisters: Marion (Albert) Marrotta, Joan (Bob) Smith and Helen (Barney) Moskal; Frankow-in-Law's: Frank( Rose), Joseph(Lilian Schneible), Michael, Helen (Aldo) Lira, Stella (George) Johnson, Francis, Mary and Anna. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, January 19, 2020 from 2-4 at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 1156 Lincoln Avenue, Utica, NY 13502. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral service and celebration of life on January 20, 2020 from 11-12, prayers at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, followed by mass 12 noon at Holy Trinity Church, 1206 Lincoln Avenue, Utica, NY 13502, with the Rev. Canon John E. Mikalajunas, Pastor, officiating. Spring burial/Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Taberg at the convenience of his family with military honors.
